Lust for Gold, Lust for silver
Summary - Galeano’s book starts off talking about the early 1400 civilizations and how their conquest for riches influenced them to travel around the world. Explorers like Hernan Cortes and Columbus discovering new lands and conquering the mayans and aztecs territories in the western hemisphere. There need to satisfy their native countries with as much gold and riches drove the native indians in North America and Central America to their dooms. He basically describes it as being the downfall of one group for the benefit of another. He attempts to explain to the reader that the success of Europe and the major countries has all come from the failure of latin america. Also goes in much detail about how the Aztecs were conquered and how the mayans fought back.
Note - The conquest of a land defiantly does determine the future development of that land and and its impact on the people.
